Here are some of my favorite DIY Halloween ideas if you’re looking for Halloween decor or Halloween treat recipes that your whole family will love. They’re super cute but, most importantly, they’re incredibly easy to make…
Witched Hat Cupcakes
SERVES: 12
1 1/2 cups vanilla frosting
Orange food coloring, for tinting
12 plain cupcakes
1/2 cup chocolate frosting
12 Keebler Fudge Stripe cookies
12 Hershey's Kisses
3 tablespoons coarse black decorating sugar
1. Tint the vanilla frosting orange using orange gel or liquid food coloring. Divide frosting among plain cupcakes and smooth using an offset spatula.
2. Put the chocolate frosting in a small resealable plastic bag. Snip the corner and pipe a generous dot chocolate frosting on the center of each Keebler Fudge Stripe cookie, chocolate-side up (this is your glue). Add a Hershey Kiss to each cookie, pressing into the frosting so it puffs up around the Hershey Kiss a bit.
3. Put the black decorating sugar in a small bowl. One at a time, hold a hat over the bowl and spoon the sugar over the chocolate frosting to coat and letting the excess fall back into the bowl. Arrange the hats on top of the frosted cupcakes. Store in an airtight container for up to 1 day, if desired.
DIY Fox Pumpkins
Cut out a heart-shaped face from a piece of white felt using scissors; attach to a pumpkin using a hot glue. Add 2 eyes and a nose using black felt or a permanent marker. Cut a tail and 2 ears from orange felt. If desired, cut 2 smaller ears and a furry tail-end from the white felt for detailing. Attach to each other and to the pumpkin using hot glue.
Rotten Apple Donuts
MAKES: 1 dozen donuts
1 dozen donuts, your choice
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1 bottle sparkling apple juice or apple juice
Green food coloring (optional)
12 pretzels
1 small jar apple sauce
Gummy worms, for decorating
1. Divide the donuts among plates or arrange on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
2. Put the confectioners' sugar in bowl. Slowly whisk in a little bit of sparkling apple juice (you only need a few tablespoons) until you reach the glaze consistency you'd like; set aside. Stir in green food coloring, if desired.
3. Insert a pretzel into each donut for an apple stem. Spoon a small scoop of apple sauce into the center of each donut. Add a gummy worm.
Spiderweb Brownies
Prepare your favorite brownie mix as the label director; slice into squares. Use melted chocolate or icing to create a spiderweb design (here’s an easy how-to video). Start by piping on a spiral design that covers the entire brownie. Drag a toothpick through the spiral, in each direction, to create the web pattern.
Jack-o-Lantern Clementines
MAKES: 1 dozen clementines
1 dozen clementines
Handful of pretzel sticks
Melted chocolate, for decorating
Green sprinkles or candies, for decorating
1. Use a black marker to draw jack-o-lantern faces on your clementines (you can use a craft marker or a food-safe marker depending on your preference, I personally use a Sharpie!)
2. Break the pretzel sticks into pieces. Use melted chocolate to stick the bits on top of the clementines to create pumpkin “stem” then add green sprinkles or candies to decorate.
DIY Yarn Halloween Wreath
Wrap a plain wreath base with black yarn, then tie some pieces across the wreath opening to create a spiderweb effect. Attach spiders and a faux bird using hot glue for a spooktacular look.
